EEVA – Digital Text Collection of Older Estonian Literature

EEVA, the digital text collection of older Estonian literature, is a joint project of the Estonian Literary Museum and the Institute of Cultural Research of the University of Tartu.

EEVA brings together texts significant to the cultural history of the Baltic region from the 13th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The project is based on the understanding that the Baltic literary sphere has historically been multilingual. EEVA contains texts written mainly in Estonian, German, and Russian, but also includes texts written in Latin, Latvian, Greek, French, and several other languages.

The texts in EEVA are categorized and can be searched using a keyword index (by field, movement, genre, language, author name, author gender, and text type).

EEVA has two central concepts: text and author. The primary unit of EEVA is the text, around which an information network has been built: references to secondary literature and an overview of the author’s life and work have been added. Whenever possible, this has been supplemented with a portrait of the author and illustrations found in the text. Texts and authors are interconnected through internal links to other related texts and authors within EEVA and, where possible, through links to related pages outside EEVA.

Due to the specific nature of the Baltic literary sphere, EEVA highlights interlingual relationships (translation, adaptation, reception, etc.).

EEVA is linked to the ESTER e-catalogue through the text location reference.
