15th International Scientific and Theoretical conference "On the Nature of Laughter" / "Laughter and Its Features" in Tartu on May 18-21, 2023

The department of folklore studies of the Estonian Literature Museum will organize the XV international scientific conference  „Laughter and its features“; in Tartu, Estonia,18-21, May 2023.

The previous conferences were held in Odessa, but due to the war, it was decided to hold it in Tartu this year. The conference "Laughter and its features" is the only conference in Eastern Europe that is dedicated to the study of laughter and humour that consistently took place for the past 15 years. It has been organised since 2000 at the Odessa National University, and at first it was held simultaneously with the Humorina festival, which provided practical material for research.

From the beginning, the conference has been interdisciplinary: folklorists, philosophers, literary critics, linguists, cultural researchers, anthropologists, psychologists, sociologists took part in it.

Theses of the conference presentations are published both in hard copy and online and are publicly available.

We invite you to take part in the conference in May 2023, in Tartu, Estonia.

Please, until March 30, 2023, send an abstract (no more than 200 words), title of the report and information about the author (full name, place of work, position, academic degree, home address, phone, e-mail)  by email victorlevchenko1961@gmail.com

The organizers of the conference reserve the right to select materials for participation. The materials sent are not returned.

The selected conference proceedings will be published as a special issue of the Doxa magazine (Doxa.onu.edu.ua).

The language of the articles is either English or Ukrainian. For publication, the speakers are invited to send the text of the article (up to 22,000 characters) by 15 November 2023.
